The Alcohol & Drug Services program has prevention and outpatient treatment services. Prevention services are available for youth and adults offering education and supportive services. Latina Women’s Program, Parenting Wisely and Harm Reduction Intervention services are also included within the prevention programs. Adult Outpatient Treatment groups are gender specific.

Prevention Programs & Services

S.A.G.E. – SUBSTANCE ABUSE GENERAL EDUCATION

  • S.A.G.E. is designed to be an intensive prevention education intervention for those that are showing use of alcohol and/or marijuana but do not meet criteria for a treatment diagnosis. The program is available for individuals interested in preventing alcohol/drug abuse. This could include people who use alcohol/other drugs, those referred by the criminal justice system, and those who wish to learn more about reducing their personal risk.
  • Assessments are not required to enroll in S.A.G.E., but if referral agencies feel an assessment is needed clients can complete them with our treatment program to rule out diagnosis.
  • For youth 15-17 who are showing high risk substance use enrollment is completed by phone and a parental permission form must be completed. Classes for adolescents are offered as need arises.
  • How to Enroll and Complete SAGE:
    • The S.A.G.E. Program is a five week program that is currently being offered virtually using Zoom. It includes 4 classes that meet for 2 hours once a week and a one hour wrap up risk reduction interview. Clients must complete the full 8 hours of education and the wrap up to complete S.A.G.E.

Latino Women’s Prevention

Educates and empowers Latino women and mothers through dynamic discussions, leadership, and mentoring opportunities.

Parenting Programs

  • Parenting Wisely
    • Parenting Wisely is an evidence-based program proven to develop effective child supervision and increase parent involvement for families with at-risk children. In addition to the topics covered by the curriculum we include how alcohol and drug use impacts parenting and the family relationship, impact of childhood trauma on behavior, and coping skills.
    • Parenting Wisely is offered both in person and virtually using ZOOM. Classes are discussion based small groups and sessions open every 4-5 weeks. Participants must complete each of the 4-5 classes in order to receive a certificate of completion along with class pre/posttest documents.
      • In person classes meet once a week for 2 hours to include 5 classes.
      • Virtual classes meet once a week for 2 hours to include 4 classes.
      • ** Virtual Parenting Wisely participants must have email, internet and the use of a web camera. Links for the class will be sent once participants have completed paperwork and pick up their class workbook packets.

Alcohol & Drug Treatment Programs

The Alcohol and Drug Treatment Program provides high quality, effective and culturally sensitive services for prevention, intervention, intensive outpatient treatment and groups. Intensive outpatient groups are gender specific and include a focus on high risk populations, pregnant women, and opiate users. All of our groups are LGBT friendly.

  • *On-site childcare is available so that clients are able to participate in group sessions.

Drug and Alcohol Assessment for Treatment

Walk in assessments are available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Clients are encouraged to come to Columbus Public Health between 8 A.M. and 10 A.M. to sign up and complete paperwork.

The Assessment will take approximately 1- 1 1/2 hours to complete.

Cost:

  • Clients will be asked to pay a minimum of $25.00 for an assessment
  • Cost may change depending on the client’s income and/or insurance coverage

Required Documentation:

The following information is required for individuals needing a drug and alcohol assessment:

  1. Photo ID
  2. Verification of your address (within Franklin County) – if the address is different than the one on your photo ID.
  3. Documentation of verifiable income
  4. Homeless shelter form (if you are homeless)
  5. Medicaid / Managed Care card (if you are a Medicaid recipient)

Outpatient Treatment

Professional care with a focus on wellness that gives people a renewed hope that recovery is possible.

Treatment Services

  • Assessment, individual and group counseling
  • Men’s and women’s groups for clients 18 years of age and up
  • Morning and evening sessions available
  • Outpatient treatment: sessions one or two times per week, depending on your group
  • Intensive outpatient treatment: sessions three times per week
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: helps people understand the thoughts and feelings affecting behavior

Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT)

  • Please call (614) 645-0479 for questions about our MAT services. Our MAT APRN line is (614) 645-0467. To be enrolled in our MAT program the client must be enrolled in our treatment program. Please call for more information.
  • What is MAT?
    • MAT pairs non-drug therapies, such as counseling or cognitive behavioral therapy, with an FDA-Approved medication to treat Opioid Use Disorder.

OVERVIEW

OPIATE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT

Outpatient Treatment Services provide individual and group counseling sessions in a non-residential setting. The average use of services is around 90 days or less.

Residential/Extended Stay Treatment Services support people in the early stages of recovery that need this residential level of care and/or are homeless.

    • This program allows parents to go through Parenting Wisely while their children ages 7-12 complete the YES (You’re Extra Special) program that is in many of the schools.

Early Intervention Services

  • About the Program
    • Columbus Public Health’s Early Intervention Services Program provides HIV, Hepatitis C and sexually transmitted infection (STI) education, counseling, and testing. The HIV EIS program works primarily with individuals in addiction treatment, recovery and support programs.

Naloxone Information

Access to Naloxone

  • What is Naloxone (Narcan)?
    • A prescription medication that can reverse an overdose that is caused by an opioid drug. When administered during an overdose, Naloxone blocks the effects of opioids on the brain and restores breathing. It can be given as an injection into a muscle or a nasal spray.
  • Mail Order Program
    • Once your form is submitted, a Columbus Public Health employee will review it. If you are located in Franklin County, a kit will be mailed to you. If you have questions, please call 614-645-6839 to speak to a CPH Alcohol and Drug Service employee.

FENTANYL EXPOSURE

Project LIFE is a pilot program by Columbus Public Health to reduce the rate of accidental overdose by limiting involuntary fentanyl exposure. Fentanyl testing strips are a life-saving overdose prevention tool, empowering individuals who use drugs to know if a substance has been contaminated with fentanyl and to take action to reduce the risk of overdose.

Safe Needle Use & Disposal

Protect yourself from diseases like HIV and Hepatitis.

  • Use a new needle, alcohol swabs and sterile supplies every time you inject.
  • Protect your family and community. Safely dispose of used needles at home.

Safe Community:

  • Keep needles away from kids and pets.
  • Get tested for HIV and hepatitis.
  • Get clean needles:
    • If you use needles for medical reasons, call your doctor.
    • If you are an IV drug user, call Safe Point (614-460-1406) for needles, treatment and overdose prevention.
    • If you find needles in your neighborhood, call 311.
